17 years ago I was busted for possession of marijuana and petty theft can I find work as a truck driver?

When I was young and dumb I stole some lip balm from Fred Meyers and had marijuana on me. It was the dumbest thing I ever did.

So, now I have a couple misdemeanors on my record
and am a completely different. I am a good person today. Is it possible to become a truck driver with misdemeanors on my record that are more than 15 years old?

I've seen a truck driver with 2 felony charges on his record get a job. I have also seen a potential driver with a 35 yr old misdameanor charge, not get a job. It all depends on the company.

Don't give up! It's all about finding that one company that will give you a chance. Happy hunting!!

Hey Dan,

We all did dumb stuff in those young years, but lip balm! Just joking man. Those are some minor charges from a long time ago with both the theft and weed.

Somebody would have to be a real clown to hold that against you, but of course there will be a clown or two.

For the most part if everything else from then until now has been good (driving, criminal history)
I don't see you having a problem eventually getting hired.

The first thing that you should do in the state of California is work on getting your record expunged.

Possession is one thing but petty theft is a toughed nut to crack. No company wants to hire a thief even though it has been so long ago.

Once you clean up your record answer no to all questions about past crimes. My husband had an old record 20+ ago, like you young and dumb, cleaned up his record and was hired by KLLM just last week. So yes you can get hired, first get your record cleaned up.
