Can i leave the truck somewhere safe other than where i was told to take it

I drive for an independent owner who contracts his truck out to a company.his contract was terminated and told me to drive the truck home so I did but in the mean time I've found another job.can I leave the truck somewhere safe and have them come pick it up without getting in some trouble? I don't have the money to bring it back.
