Do I need insurance to be a 1099 cdl truck driver for someone elses llc transport business?

by Robbie Breeze
(Southington, Ct)

I've been driving OTR for a large company for 15 months. Need to be home more (wife going thur breast cancer) I found a guy in Ct that has 2 trucks & is a transport llc. He wants to hire me as a 1099. I will drive his trucks, go to scheduled drop off & pick ups. He pays for fuel, tolls etc. Should I be a 1099 or w2? Also if I'm a 1099 should I have liability insurance? He says he has his trucks insured, I would get docs for proof.

Thank you for your helping answers?

It is my understanding you can not be a 1099 subcontractor if you are driving someone else's truck

No reason to double insure a vehicle

Unless you need to submit insurance proof to fmcsa to keep your own company active.

Consider getting your own occ acc.
