I don't know of a trucking company that would hire him after that. Maybe after a few years depending on how productive he is during those years, might give him a chance.
The will see it as irresponsible, unsafe, unlawful, and an addict (paraphernalia) more than likely.
So if they hired him, it puts them in liability if an accident occurs whether it was his fault or not just for letting him drive with his background.

His trucking career is over.
Even if he hires an attorney to try to say "it wasn't his" he will NOT get this information expunged from the FMCSA database, thereby forcing him to try to drive in another state with another license and lie to a potential "new" employer.

This industry is unforgiving wherever public safety is involved.
You didn't mention whether or not they drug-tested him or whether or not he is contesting.
