Wow! What a wonderful website. I just stumbled over here on a whim. Let's see if I can "tell my story" with some semblance of coherence.
These days I am a lowly professor at Concordia College in Selma, Alabama. I am also a First Nations Orthodox priest with a PhD in English and another PhD in anthropology.
To make a long story short, I worked my way to those degrees by getting a CDL and hauling just about everything from food to computers.
Back in 2010 when the economy was really taking a nosedive, I was teaching at a university up in Canada. But the bosses at that school got caught with their hands in the proverbial cookie jar (embezzling), so the government shut them down and I was without a job.
"Well, I still have my CDL," I said to myself. So I phoned my brother and we thought we'd get into the trucking business together. So I ran down to Texas, bought myself a nice Freightliner and was ready to roll.
Dumb mistake. Several fees, taxes, licenses, fines, levies, tariffs, and mechanic bills later, we said, "Forget this," took the truck, parked it, and stuck a FOR SALE sign in the window, bitter lesson learned.
Now to the nitty-gritty: I still keep my CDL current with all the fun endorsements "just in case." Although I'm secure in my current position, I would just *LOVE* to go on the open road again for the summer(s).
Anybody interested? Just look me up "Victor Quauhtitlatoatzin" on Facebook or Fr. Victor over at Concordia College.
