I'd like to add to the get out and look. I have been driving for 16 yrs and have been a trainer for 10 yrs. I still get out and look.
I work with guys who have been driving over 40 yrs and they get out (it just takes them longer to get to the back lol). Not so much backing into docks, but when you get into specialty hauling you will be backing into areas that were never meant for trucks.
I tell my trainees It doesn't matter if traffic is backed up for 2 miles waiting on you, you get out and look. Traffic will be worse if you hit something.
And speaking of backing into things, at some point we all do it. I advise to put windows down and turn radio down and if not using it for backing turn the cb down. If you don't feel it you'll hear it
