How much time do you get in the shower facilities?

I am not a trucker and drive between San Diego, CA and Austin TX every few months (sleeping in my car for a few hours along the way).

Being a woman, I need extra time to do my hair and make up after showering. How much time do they give you for your $10 bucks? Thanks!

Long Showers at a truck stop NEW
by: Anonymous

There isn't any specific time limit at the major chain truckstops. Sometimes the little mom&pop truckstops have a time limit posted on a sign. I take long showers so I am very qualified to answer this question. My average shower is probably around 2.5 hours, from the time I leave my truck until when I return. I cut my hair in there instead of using a barber. And I have some physical health issues that require more time to deal with than other people. You will get a knock or two during that 2.5 hour time, usually the first knock comes around the 2 hour point. It is polite and patient. The 2nd knock usually comes around the 2.5 hour point. It is polite but sometimes impatient. The 3rd knock usually comes around the 3 hour point and it is neither polite nor patient. At that point I usually start wrapping things up and trying to get out of there. Once, at a Pilot, the female manager threatened to call the sheriff and have me removed because I had been in there around 3 hours. That was years ago. I could name the specific Pilot, but I won't. I finished trimming my toenails and put my socks and boots on and went back to my truck. In answer to your question: You're safe in taking around 2 hours without having any issues from the manager, if it's a big major chain truckstop. Maybe tell the clerk that U R going to be a while. I don't, though.

Shower times NEW
by: Anonymous

I work at a Flying J, we do not have time limits. But will check on you to make sure you are okay. When it is busy, and people are waiting, it would be nice for people to limit shower time.

Other note, our facilities do not offer towels for you to take with you. This is a high cost to the business, and we try and offer you nice towels, but it seems people like to "steal" them.

Please be kind and leave towels in the showers.

Varies by Location
by: Matthew

Some places will allow you to only take a shower for a max of 30 to 45 minutes depending upon the type of truck stop. You can find some locations however, like Road Ranger Convenience Stores who lease their pumps to Pilot, where showers aren't usually timed but cost around $12.00.

If you're a truck driver who has a rewards card with Pilot/Flying J you can take a shower for free with a loyalty shower credit. A lot of Pilot locations like these have been updated with more modern showers and larger facilities.

You should check them out! They usually give you a towel, soap, toilet, shower, and floor mat all in its own private room.

With-in reason.

You're not timed in the shower. I guess you could stay in there for 2 hrs if you wanted. Jimmy
