How much will new truckers make starting out

by Laura
(VA)

My husband is wanting to start the trucking career so that I may quit my awful job and either stay at home or work part time elsewhere.

Just curious how well do most new truckers make in money starting out? He is trying to get on with TMC so that they will provide his training.

He shouldn't have any problem making $60K + at TMC the first year.

He should make enough money at TMC so you won't have to work.
Do his year there, then move to something like Estes Express line haul or Old Dominion Freight Lines line haul.
Friend of mine makes $70K at Estes Express line haul and is home every day. Many of the drivers where he works make much more than he does.

Salary For a New Truck Driver
by: Hervy

Laura new truckers going through a company sponsored program could make from $25,000 to $40,000.(possibly more) It depends on the company they go with and other things.

TMC is a company that pays their drivers from the middle to higher end of the range proving other things line up. Which is also a variable for all other companies such as...

The dispatchers ability
The dispatchers desire to do a good job
The relationships between him and dispatcher
The amount of freight available to company (shouldn't be an issue with TMC)
How often he wants and is allowed to come home

Having said that, if he can go with a community college, he will likely earn more at a company. More the first year to actually pay back cost of trucking school.

Also, after the first year, he should be able to earn $40,000 plus. If not where he is, then he could go to another trucking company that will pay him $40,000.
How much do truckers Make

Starting as a flatbeed driver is definitely a great choice. Tell him to get into oversized as soon as possible if the desire is for you to eventually stop working all together.
Oversized and heavy hauling

He might also want to research getting his own authority and truck after a couple of years too.
Becoming an Owner Operator
