Your life evolves around the schedule of whatever freight you can legally haul period.
The times of day i wake up, go to bed change every day/night. I am sure this is the same for most OTR truckers.
Why do we do it? I ask myself that question almost daily.

The nature of trucking lifestyle by: Hervy
That is part of why we say this is a lifestyle not just a job. That is the nature of trucking.
I will give you an example.
Say today Friday, he got to where he delivers on Monday morning at 8. Well he can sleep as long as he want Saturday and Sunday.
Suppose he delivers at 8, is empty by 9. Picks up another load by noon drives until 10. Is up by 8 to drive 8 more hours to get to his delivery destination by closing at 5PM.
When he gets empty, his next load might not pick up until the next morning only 30 miles away.
So in this scenario you can see that on some nights, he has more sleep time than others. How do you manage it, you just deal with it. I don't know what else to tell you.
If your question was not answered, you have to ask another way.
You just have to figure out how to make things work out taking into account the regulations, time it takes to get to where you are going, how much you are held up.
