I will need truck insurance on a tractor. Do I need to be a company driver first?

I'm looking to buy another truck and hitting the road. what is needed can i buy a truck and insure it if i just go out and buy a truck and trailer. or do i need to go the company driver route before a insurance company will insure me. and if so how long
