I'm over 50 is it worth my time to go to trucking school to find a driving job in Oregon?

by John Felice

I think I might be too old to began a trucking career. I have been out of work for several years and am wondering if a trucking school might be a good idea. I would be trying to find work in Oregon.

Is 50 too old to become a truck driver? NEW
by: brenda mcclellan

I wanted to become a truck driver since I was 20 but I had to fulfill all my responsibility to my family. I want to pursue my goal now but wondering if I am too late for school to become a truck driver? can someone help me if it's possible?

getting into trucking over 50 in Portland Or NEW
by: Hervy

John, You have been given great advice. I would say you are not too old.

Make sure you are able to account for the time out of work though. It doesn't even have to be something official.

For instance, if you were taking care of a family member or something else and have some supporting information, they would be good.

Here are some Portland area trucking companies that are hiring.

They are not concerned about older people driving, so long as good health. actually they prefer older drivers.

Sure it's worth it. I'm 53 and loving it. It is steady work, not too hard on the body. Worst thing would be paying the,$5K, being away from home alot, at least for the first year. Once you've gotten a years experience, lots of companies to choose from, but you got to pay your dues, as far as drive time. Stay away from the "CDL mill", companies. Do your research and you will find the good companies and good schools too. Some companies will reimburse your tuition.
Good luck.
