Not 100% sure if we're talking about the same tranny, but does your tranny have 'plunger' or switch on the stick? I believe you're talking about a 5 speed tranny with a 2 speed rearend. If so, you can split the rear end gears with each tranny gear.

So gears 1-5 can be split each time, or you can skip a split depending on how much weight you have. I'll get real basic for you, in case I lost you. Start out in 1st gear, plunger down, when ready to shift, clutch in, pull plunger out, release clutch. You have NOT touched the stick during this manuever. You are now in 1st gear, high rearend. Next, you accelerate and then shift the stick to 2nd, and then push the plunger in, so you will be in 2nd gear tranny and low rear end. You can also just shift the tranny without using the plunger, but keep in mind, you may be in too high a gear as you go. The plunger I refer to may be a switch, if it's a newer truck. Jimmy
