Is it possible to find a trucker that travels between Austin and Wash DC that would be willing to offer a ride for a fee?

A friend needs to get from Austin to Wash DC area in early October and is currently short on cash.

Is there any possibility to contact a trucker that travels this route and ride along for a fee?

This friend is a 40 year old college professor with a new baby and a wife that is being downsized. Be warned however, he is a people person, full of energy and loves good conversations.
