Not Coping Well With Trucking Lifestyle as a Wife

by Nae
(Arkansas)

This may already be a topic. I'm 6 months old to the trucker spouse life. We have been married for 20 years, have a college kid and a 16 & 15 year old at home.

I work full time, attend grad school and feel so alone it's like I'm not married at all. We cant talk during the work day and he gets parked so late that 15 minute calls at 11pm are about all we get.

He comes home every other weekend if I'm lucky but he has to spread time over the 3 of us plus do everything that needs done.

I knew what we were getting into but I didn't think I would have such a hard time.

Whooooo saaaaaaah!

Learn to do what needs to be done so he won't have to so it. Tell him you need more talk time.....if he can drive while talking, some can't, but he could call sooner and talk longer. I talk to my husband at least once a day for about 2 hours or more. I work overnights so he calls in the early morning and when he gets up so we sometimes can talk before I go to work. We both have a blue tooth so it's easier than having to stop driving. I sure hope you can work things out......It's a very hard life for the spouse.....but that's where communication, trust, understanding and fidelity come in.
