Per Diem Tax Deductions For Truckers

by Ray Haselman
(Hollywood, FL)

Truckers should keep good records, including receipts, of all overnight traveling away from home. Even if you stay in your sleeper, you are allowed the present per diem rate for all days away from home.

While you probably won't be deducting the exact costs on your receipts, the receipts will be able to prove your locations while away.

Record Keeping Tips for Truckers NEW
by: Vicki Simons

Yes, it is very important that professional truck drivers keep a record of all of their expenses for tax purposes. We provide some tips on record keeping basics:

It is best to spend just a few minutes every day to take care of receipts. Trust me, if you let a receipt with an ambiguous "code" on it go undeciphered for more than a day or so, one's memory is apt to get fuzzy. You won't remember what you spent money on even with a receipt in hand.

Don't "leave money on the table" when it comes to getting all of the tax deductions you are entitled to.

If you didn't do so good last year, develop a good system of record keeping this year. Be diligent and your efforts will more than likely be rewarded. Familiarize yourself with all legitimate deductions.

We wish all professional truck drivers safe travels and lots of money saving opportunities on the road.

Best regards,
Vicki Simons
