previous driver has question

by Edward Thomas
(Tyler, Texas)

I am a previous truck driver 15 yrs, driving in 33 states.I had at that time a class e chauffeurs license which has been about 17 yrs ago.

In 2011 i went to a driving school and got my cdl with all endorsements but i found out that the only people interested in hiring me were places like swift, pam and so on.

I was not interested in going long distance,so i started trying to get with local companies. Everywhere i went it was same old story, we require 1 to 2 yrs current driving in the last 3 yrs. Had i known how frustrating this would be i believe i would have took some other type of schooling.

One question that i have is why do truck companies insist on these current driving requirements when i had 15 yrs of on the road in just about every kind of environmental situation that a driver could experience including mountain driving.

You can thank the insurance companies for that.
