Retired coast to coast driver
by Billy Wagers
(Ormond Beach Fl. USA)
My story is different than the ones I have been reading. I owned my own trucking company for years.
I have logged over 2 million miles in big trucks and I have been blessed with no tickets, no accidents and never been in trouble with the law in my life.
I kept driving after I retired. My wife had 2 heart attacks and I decided to just drive tri-axles locally, hauling sand, dirt and asphalt.
I did that last year and this year I have driven a lot of miles with owner operators that knows my reputation as a driver.
I live in Ormond Beach, Florida and when someone needs to make a quick trip to Houston or somewhere farther, l go and share the driving to get it done.
But since l haven’t been steady employed since last year, just driving all over the US, companies are wanting me to drive with a trainer for months before hiring me.
I have always been a solo driver because I have heard to many drivers out there complaining to their dispatch, they are tired or they don’t like the load they were given or something all the time, and that’s something l don’t do.
So since we are talking about second chances, with my driving record, don’t you think l deserve one?
Thanks, Billy
