Ok so I'm no spring chicken,been driving over 15 years 48'flatbed & 53'dryvan for dead end companies.

When I started year 2000 the average rate was (depending what company) around. .34 cents mile. Fast forward 15 yrs 2015. The company I work for Wright Knox Motor Lines pays. .36. Ready for the math?

That's 2 cents difference if you ONLY get 2000 miles weekly that's 40$ & after taxes &insurance it's only 30$.

So let's see if you drove 2000 miles you worked 40-45 hrs drive Time. Equaling a, 66cent raise per hour after 15 years of service br

First off , my hats off to you driver , for 15 yrs. in the game.
Much respect driver, but with your experience you could go to most companies and get at least .45 - .47 CPM
Bonuses, paid time off ,good detention pay,layover pay act.

Ok so I took the LIBERTY of breaking down the numbers for ALL YOU CURRENT & POTENTIAL DRIVERS. WHAT TO MAKE OF ALL THIS? In order to drive Tractor Trailer THESE days June 2015 you better GROSS no less than 65000 a year that's CLEARING ABOUT 49000
THAT means your check after taxes & insurance BETTER READ No less than
980$ BRING Home or else you will be @!#:&
That's at THE VERY LEAST!!!

If you want to have money for kids tuition or a nest egg or own your home or small business. ..you better
Really I MEAN REALLY CRUNCH THE NUMBERS CAUSE TRUCKING KEEPS GETTING WORSE & MORE NOOSE AROUND THE NECK.

They are making guys wreck left n right cause they are running them to LITERAL DEATH, AND THE DRIVER FEELS (S)HE HAS TOO JUST TO GET AHEAD OF THE PENDING DOOM

Ok so I may get flack from other drivers bout previous post,they may say ignorant things like "why you ONLY getting 2000 miles" or "why you ONLY gettin 36cpm?"
Please don't be an ignorant driver,be informed and understanding.
My point of original post is Most Trucking companies are ONLY pAying their drivers half of what they're worth! Sure THERE are companies that pay there COMPANY Drivers 65-100K A YR. But look this up....the average OTR driver makes 45000 GROSS A YEAR
That's ONLY 32000?? after taxes & med.insurance. & if you pay child support ( I don't) many do,they automatically deduct from check so now you're down to 27,200$ BRING HOME
OK SO LET'S BREAK IT DOWN.
IF YOU HAVE SPOUSES & OR KIDS
AT 32000 MINUS 600$ RENT (DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU LIVE & HOW MANY BEDROOMS) PLUS OTHER EXPENSES.
32000-Bring home
-7200-RENT
-1200 water& sewage
-6000 food/taxables
-1200 cell phones
-1800 cable/internet
-4800 AT LEAST OTR expenses
-6000 2 Car payments (depending)
-2000 gas for cars
-1800 insurance for cars
THAT ALONE IS 32000 FN DOLLARS
I DIDN'T MENTION CLOTHES FOR SELF SPOUSE & KIDS
I didn't mention taking your wife or kids out to dinner every once in a while
I didn't mention birthdays or Christmas or any other HOLIDAY EXPENSES
I DIDN'T MENTION YOU DON'T OWN BUT JUST RENT,ALWAYS IN DEBT WITH CARS & RENT
I DIDNT MENTION ELECTRIC BILL
I DIDN'T MENTION GAS BILL
I DIDN'T MENTION ANY KIDS SCHOOL COSTS
I didn't mention GARBAGE BILL

Wow I never seen ANYONE break it down like that. That's a shotty deal.
SO I see a driver gas TO BE EXTREMELY SELECTIVE WHERE HE SHOULD WORK FOR & NOT SETTLE FOR LESS.
