It sucks if you are going to try to make ends meet on brokered loads alone
3PL (third party logistics) should only be used as a last resort, maybe to get home, other than that, they are like dope dealers that get in the middle to take their cut
You won't know how much they take, but they will take what everyone else is taking. Should only be 10%, but they get too greedy.
You need your own customers in this business
There are some good brokers out here but it will take time for you to find them, it will also take you hauling and being on time and reliable... over and over again... before they might consider giving you dedicated freight or a better rate, but by that time, the customer will probably have solicited you for your direct business sans the broker
Time... thats what it takes, and that whole "time"... there is a ton of money coming out of your pocket....
even if you own your truck straight out and don't have a truck payment, your bills and operating costs will keep you right at "breaking even"
