Working for Transam Trucking

by Mary
(OH)

Just read someone's bad experience working for Transam. Are they any worse than the rest? Seems there are a lot of disillusioned truckers out there.

Promises not kept and ways for company to cheat them out of money.

Bad behavior allowed! NEW
by: Anonymous

As a current employee I really want to express my disappointment with what I have recently seen not being addressed. I work in the same building as the training department and I frequently meet the Director from upstairs in passing and have a chance to make small talk. I have found the talk to be more than uncomfortable as of late and increasingly getting more offensive. At first I chalked it up to locker room type talk from him but as he seemed to feel more at ease the more offensive the statements were as related to Transam female staff members. He described how he hugs them all to get a little "feel feel" and how he has "bagged" more than a few inside the office and is working on a few now. He started talking about female employees no longer with the company Christy, Meghan and a few other names I don't remember and that he has to be careful because they had as he put it "jumped on me for something related before but I'm playing it smart now. Gotta get what a man can get!" All the while he acted as if this was ok as he laughed it all off. I shook my head and told him that was more than I needed to know and I had to check on something and walked off. I spent the afternoon thinking about what I just heard and how many others may have heard the same and even though I'm a little hesitant to open up about this and somehow have it held against me in some way, I do take pride in the job I do and how our department's conduct is and expect the same in other's. I have a working wife and hope she does not have to face this kind of behavior.
I was pretty blown away by how casually he uses specific employees names and who he was wanting to go after next and what he'd like to do. I guess he expected me to be impressed and joke it off with him.
I'm not sure the route to take as he stated they already knew about some things and yet he speaks carefree with it all. So I figured I would get it out on reviews and maybe someone will care enough to look into it and resolve it without any backlash towards myself or other employees who may feel too intimidated to report this behavior. He's a Director up there so I'm not sure what they'll do if anything. They apparently have had knowledge of questionable actions of his before. Hopefully it'll get addressed but who knows anymore.
It would be a shame for Transam to get a reputation for allowing that kind of culture to exist especially near our new hires. I wouldn't want my wife or daughter around that type of conduct. I'm pretty damn shocked and disappointed, but still hopeful that someone will look into it.

Sounds like nothing changed and I've been gone over 2 years now. There's no way they don't know what that guys up to. He's always been like that. He used to tell us stories of his conquests with employees and some students. He's a creeper for sure and they let him do it. Same ole same ole Transam!

What are you doing wrong?
by: Anonymous

I have been reading all your BS lines on this site. I have just 1 question for all of you. Make sure before you answer, you take a long look at yourselves!

What is your performance levels how many jobs have you had in the past 5 years. What is your criminal record. And how many times you blame others for your short comings. See the the Commons here?

My question is why can't you get your heads out of your butts, and take responsibility for your own actions?

Get over yourselves, start working hard, and stop expecting companies to take care of you! These companies owe you nothing!

Y'all are cracking me up something serious on here! Y'all are blaming your short comings on Trans Am so here let me tell you all the truth I have been with TA for 6 months now and just signed my 5 year lease with my brand new 2017 kwt680 as a solo I made nothing less then 900 a week and now as a coach I average $1800-2300 a week with two weeks at almost $3000 the reason these sorry beggars on here are bitching is because like they said they are company drivers or I ran hard well right they ran too hard and ran out of hours or ran too fast and used too much fuel or over fueled in general so don't listen to this bull.

I have and will continue to make a good living at Trans am and so with the other lease drivers they pay me on time and correctly every time and if anyone thinks I'm bull shifting then by all means email me and I'll show you how full of crap the people on here are jonathanmihalko@gmail.com

Trans Scam!!!
by: Harley

Came back to Trucking 5 years ago because of the economy! I've run and owned 5 companies in total. So I know how to run a business, Transportation or otherwise!I also do it LEGALLY !
*I understand TA has simply gotten worse!
* The Owner sits on the Tyson Chicken Board!Owns something like 25% of Tyson Chicken/Foods!
* He uses TA and National Carriers "The Elite Fleet"(my ass!)to run Tyson Chicken deliveries!
* He makes money off both trucking companies!
* He makes money off the deliveries of Tyson!
* He makes money off L/P Drivers & their Trainers!
* He makes money off Tyson Foods Sales!(Since he's 25% owner (or more now!)of Tyson Foods!
* He makes money off the Re-Sale of the Trucks!
* Also, a side note:If you worked as a L/P Contractor for TA!National Carriers will strand you in Dallas! They will literally throw you out of the hotel,in the shitty neighborhood it's in!High Crime Rate!
They did it to me!Told me I lied to them, said I was a "company driver" at TA!When I questioned how I could have said such a thing, when it was written all over my paperwork, I was a Contractor for TA, not company! He had NO answer!
TA promised 3000 miles a week!Other than 1 week, when I got 3100. Every week after and before,I averaged 1200-1500 a week!Half of what they promised directly in training & Dallas wrote it in the corner of one of my pages on my Lease!Even my lawyers said;"If they give you the miles"! Well they don't!!!! and you won't get the miles!By the time the owner sends a truck to be sold used. He has paid off that truck two or three times! Then, he makes money again off the sale of the tractor out right!
This current pending lawsuit may just put him out of business for good!! We can only hope!!! I think he's worried about that to!I sure have seen a bunch of Transam (TA)Trucks lately, coming onto the used truck market. Still a bit higher priced, then comparable tractors being sold elsewhere with compatible mileage and year ranges!I think he's realizing the jig is up!This Class Action is going to knock his socks off! You can't keep screwing people and expect there Not to be any "blowback" eventually! I lost a ton, because of this idiot! I hope they either put him in jail or he has to give (Free!)all his past inventory to people he's screwed!(I'd take a 2013 T700, why not?)Then close down the business for good!!!!
Transam has screwed thousands of drivers! That's why they want the one's fresh out of CDL School. They don't know any better! They even screw their Trainers!Had they simply provided the miles, directly as they promised in my contract!I'd of had my T700 paid off 6 months to a year ago!Maybe bought another one and started a small fleet with them! But no, that would be "taking" money out of the owners pocket! Can't do that! Then, my question to the Owner of TA and National Carriers. Is why do a L/P Program in the first place bonehead? What do you expect from Tyson Foods Ownership?

They will give you a chance when others will not, BUT they are robbing us. $230. To $280 to haul freight is BULLSHIT!

I follow the guidelines they gave I even put way less fuel in when they say fill up... I'm running and running HARD I get to all appointments early and on to the next and I'm still getting peanuts.

The training department is decent, the ladies in Olathe are very NICE but nice does pay! I'm about to hit the eject button and go to a better company

Trans Am don't go there.........
by: Anonymous

I worked there for 7 months, completed a 6 month lease on a 2015 KW T680.started out good they put you with one dm for ten weeks she was the greatest if I had a problem she would take care of it ran me hard, which that's what I like. After that it went down hill. No let me tell all you haters I have over 800k miles I just wanted to see how it was to do lease.

The dm don't have a clue I know they have many trucks to take care of. But no detention pay and being a meat hauler there is a lot of sitting first two months they would pay $150 for lay over pay then they took that away.

Swap crazy they would give loads to drivers that don't have enough hours to run the load, at first they was offering me money to swap, then that went away too. It don't stop.I would run on average 3000 a week stay out for 6 months that's the way I like to run. Made money not what I should have only went in the hole one time I Broken down in fort worth TX it took them a week to fix truck so I had a negative settlement for a couple week's I did have break down ins. But that on me played $350.

My average settlement was around $700 a week. Well I left and yes I am doing another lease with another company and my settlements are around $1500 a week.

If trans am would pay a $
1.00 a mile or more plus fsc and detention pay you could make money. But they don't care.

I am not going to get into any great detail. But, I will say this about Transam... I think they could sell a vacuum cleaner to a dead man. You will work and worry hard when you are actually driving. Be prepared for a very unreasonable amount of waiting for which you continue to incur expenses, but for which you will not be compensated. Speaking from personal experience, I could not recommend this company to anybody, regardless of their experience level.

They really do sell a good line and indeed have nice equipment, but that's it. You will honestly make a better living at Walmart and be home with your family. In closing, I agree with many of the other comments posted here. Keep looking.

Company drivers need a 2nd job just to survive but what Otr driver have time for a second job
by: Anonymous

Worked at Trans Am 2 years as a company driver 1st year 22,000 that year second year 16,000. I actually like the people at Trans Am some can be assholes at times but you can run into that on many jobs.

All of the load swapping they do is really killing drivers.Breakdown pay is 50.00 a day which I promise they sometimes do not pay you break down you can keep reminding them but they keep telling you to hold on and never pay .

Dispatch never picks up the phone so if your blue tree is down you are fucked. Call road assist they might can get dispatch to call you in 2 or 3 hours. I do not have a beef with Trans Am but 16000 a year for a company driver is extrem poverty

Transam will have you paying them to drive.
by: Brian

I was smooth talked into leasing a truck from Transam. Biggest mistake I have ever made. Everything everyone else has said is true. I would receive $40.oo for driving 2,8oo miles or be in the hole and owe them.

When I turned in the truck I had $1,700 in my maintenance fund and two weeks of pay owed me. I received a check for $25.00 Transam kept the rest, said I owed them. A week later I get a bill saying I owed them $435.00.

You will end up paying Tramsam for driving for them. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR LIES!!

Now that I have worked for Trans Am I have to say that company is a joke and the biggest band of idiots that I've ever run into.

They don't have a clue how to dispatch a driver on a run to save their own live and Chris - Operations Manager at Trans Am.... Ohhh hell, Here we go - This guy is such a Chicken Shit that he sits in his office like he's GOD and expects everyone to do JUST AS THEY ARE TOLD.

Chris is such a pussy that he wont do anything when Trans AM's Customers make a mistake and wont come to the Driver and get their side of the story but instead gets rid of the Driver cause he cant take the heat when shit gets HOT and when it does this idiot tucks his tail and runs like the Chicken Shit that he is.

I have to say that I would NOT tell anyone to work for this crappy BULLSHIT company that doesn't care about anyone but themselves

Lessening a Truck from Trans Am
by: Leather-N-Lace

Ok I've been reading about all of the Bitching and crying about Trans Am's Lease program and how's it's a Scam. Ok let's get a few things straight.

First things First - you have to get out of the company thought process and start thinking like an O/O. Second thing your fuel is EVERYTHING !!! Let me explain so all of the CHILDREN on here can shut up, stop their Crying and learn a thing or 2.
Let's get started.
$.90 per mile
+ 3,000 miles per week
- 2400 fuel cost at $400 fueling per day
- $600 Truck Payment
- Your advances
= Your paycheck
If you run the truck like that there is NO reason way you can't be successful at their lease program. My BF is an O/O with Southwest Carriers and has a$500 truck payment and that's how he runs his trucks and makes money left and right. If you follow what I tell you to anyone that is thinking about lead wing a truck for Trans Am such as myself then if you fail is cause you didn't listen to me or take my advice.

TRANS SCAM!!!!!!!!!!
by: Anonymous

I 2 work for Trans Scam and im a company driver. In the days of my orientation they did try there best to get us 36 people to lease a BRAND NEW slightly used KW T 700 P O S. I mean they had plenty of new drivers already hypnotized to the lease and be your own boss? Ha yeah right they tell you that you will make tons more money then a company driver and that ur doing the same job. What they dont tell u is that you cant ever go home cause you will lose money you still have the truck payment to make. also insurgence and maintenance which will put you in the hole. Now I was smart and went company but had to wait for my truck for 3 days at the terminal. the time i was waiting they hounded me and the 6 other drivers to lease. asking why i dont want to lease? again for the tenth time no i want company. So after waiting forever i was told i had to go recover a truck in Nebraska at some impound. Got there the truck was trashed and couldn't pass a pre trip. sent messages on C com and waited forever for response. After got serviced and ran 2 loads got back to the yard and got the truck fixed and serviced and it was fine. Until the load swaps and the canceled dispatches started to happen. I still drive for this sh#t company only because trying to get experience up. But as of now ive been doing nothing but load swaps cause they can and its not due to hours they lie there asses off. Every time i pick up a load weigh it and get it all set up for me to drive it cross country then they do a load swap and take my 1200 mile load and swap me with a 300 mile load that has 3 stops on it or one final that's due at 3:00 in the morning. Its like they want me to stay up all night. Bottom Line its a company to get ur feet wet with in trucking and that's it. ur just a number to them and so am i. Will be leaving soon as i get home time and empty my truck out and will move on.

Don't work for this company, they will screw you
by: Anonymous

I went to Olathe, KS for a truck driving job. I got there and leased a truck. I worked there for about a month and I was talking to some new people, I just made one harmless comment about leasing and the company manager got mad.

All I said was: "you guys who are going to drive a company truck are smart. It's better than leasing in a lot of ways."

After saying that, the manager pulled me into a back room and forced me to turn in my lease! There were some other people in the room to who were quite pissed off about what I said.

They gave me 2 hrs to clean out my truck and leave the property.

They got me a cab ride at company expense to the Kansas City bus station. Then made me call my relatives back home to wire me money to pay for my own bus ticket!

The company promised that I would make good money as a lease driver and I'd get a lot of miles. But they weren't paying out. After being there for a month, I had driven thousands of miles all over the country and they didn't even pay me! When I asked why I hadn't gotten paid, they just said I had to wait for the following week . Even then, I still didn't get paid!

Now this is a company that can't take a joke. They also infringed on my First Amendment right to freedom of speech!

Another complaint that other people have about TransAm is that ALL of their vehicles are automatic transmission. They have no stick shifts- none!

I hate stick shifts, but most people prefer them.

If this company is going to get rid of me for something like this, just a harmless comment I made as a joke, they will get rid of anyone for stupid reasons!

I'll be the first to admit the joke I made was not funny at all and inappropriate, but to get rid of someone for a comment like that or saying anything else, is uncalled for! They obviously don't support or believe in the US Constitution!

If you know what's good for you, don't work for this really f*%ked up company! TransAm is bull s**t! They can go to h**l!

TRANS AM BEWARE
by: Anonymous

trans am was unfortunately my first choice out of school. everything bad you've heard or read about them is true.

they try to shove the lease program down your throat, which is a ripoff.

The lies start in orientation, not fifty dollars a day,but for all three. Hopefully you make it through training without having to deal with the student/coach coordinator in olathe, out of all the people i've dealt with in the trucking industry,he is the most incompetent individual yet.

All i have to say is search the web and if possible ask other drivers before making first choice and wasting time.

GOOD LUCK

What realistic about the lease program
by: brandon

Ive been with transam since 08. Came here after having my contract at dart broken due to a rear end collision. (Only accident ive ever had, been driving 8 years now) had 4 years of lease experience pryor to transam so i knew a little b4 i signed there contract.

Was solo the first 10 months and averaged about 600 a week after expenses. Transams biggest problem is sitting at meat houses and too much time on freight.

They only have 2 terminals so drop n hooks are not common. They allowed me to train my wife to drive so after 10 months we started running team and paid our truck off in 2011. Transam is a brutal lease for a solo.

Most of the solo trucks that started out a lease truck, usually goes thru about 5 or 6 failed lease drivers b4 the truck note is almost paid and then transam absorbs the truck into their company fleet or just wholesales the truck to arrow or anybody that comes in with good credit.

Im not going to sit here and tell u there any worse than any other company because there not. Every company is out there to make$ not worry about ur illusions about being a trucker. Those days died in the early 90s.

IF U OWN A HOUSE WITH A MORTGAGE, CAR PAYMENT, WIFE AND KIDS, THIS LEASE IS NOT FOR U. i lost everything b4 i came to transam and got it all back with transam because as a team me and my wife averaged 1500 a week steady. However i know many solos(some r good friends) that came to transam with the above mentioned and lost it all because the truck payment is too high and the downtime on their cat motors was too often and the miles available weren't enough to come back and over come the downtime.

However, transams response to all these problems has been fixed with the paccar t700s and the introduction of downtime insurance. If u like to be gone a lot and don't have anything to tie u down, then i recommend transam just because there trucks r idiot proof, automatic, are going to get roughly 7 miles to the gallon as long as u stay with a paccar motor.

STAY AWAY FROM THE CAT MOTOR. I hope this helps.

Is Trans Am a good Trucking company
by: Hervy

I couldn't tell ya. I have heard good and bad as with most trucking companies.

Like you said though there are a lot of disillusioned drivers. Then again, there are also broken promises and miscommunications, unrealistic expectations, the list goes on.

Just like your asking questions now, ask to any trucking company or recruiter. Make sure you ask questions in a way so that the answer you get is not one that could be interpreted in different ways. If you notice the answer is not satisfactorily definitive of a direct answer ask another way until you get a satisfactory answer.

If an answer seems way too good to be true it probably is. If you plan on making some serious decision based on the information you think is too good, it's best to get it in writing.

As far as expecting to find a perfect company, you have the same chances becoming a millionaire by purchasing a lottery ticket.

You have to find a good company that is suitable for your specific needs. There are things that will make that different companies for different drivers.

Locations (yours and the companies terminal)
Whether they run hard or not (some drivers like running some don't)
The Type of Benefits (Some drivers need better insurance than others)
How much they pay (some drivers need more money so they sacrifice on home time or other things)

see, so you have to find a company that suits your needs.

Do ask questions like your doing, just don't wait to find one where you hear no bad what so ever, it might be a long wait.

Good Luck Hervy. Check out this page too.

Student's Be Aware!!!!!!!
by: Mike C.

The orientation and on OTR training is 5 weeks!!!
You only get paid $50.00 for the first 3 days and not $50.00 per day. They push you through leasing and have you chose a couple of trucks that are worn out and nasty and they would give you the impression that you are getting a new truck.

Once on the road you can never get a hold of your driver mgr, communication is poor and most of the dispatcher's are rude and don't care about their driver's. They treat you just like a number not part of a family atmosphere as to what they have precede. There is no such thing as TRANS AM FAMILY
except amongst the drivers.

When waiting for a meat load it's ridiculous and waiting for a load can be just as bad. Most of the trailers are out of date and don't work properly. There is no consistency in mileage. The attitude of the dispatcher's is that they do not care as if you are bothering them.

I was with TRANS AM for 11 months and just got tired of their crap...Trans Am has a big bulls eye on their back and is constantly getting pulled in for inspections with DOT.

I am telling you this as a concern driver just to keep your eyes open. Driver/Driver coach.....Mike C...

You’ll starve and lose everything working here
by: Deatherage

This company is a joke!! They have it all figured out to make them money while you don’t make anything! They robbed me of a bonus stating I refused a load when I didn’t. They can see that I took the load but still refuse to pay me. They send me a message saying I drove 2991 miles and I. Payday I was paid for 2400 miles and no one knows where my miles went. I have not been home in 2 months. I’m a lease driver and they gave me a truck that they didn’t service or inspect. I’ve broken down 3 times. Losing 10 days pay but they still took the payment and left me in the hole. Road assist even left me stranded for 12 hours and I was awake for 36 hours. I have an excellent driving record, I don’t job hop and I give it my all. This company is bad news. If anyone would like to start a class action lawsuit count me in!

TransAm ripoff
by: Anonymous

TransAm is a rip off. They talk you in leasing and then they rip you off. No miles. Your not even making minimum wage. Work 7 days a week. If you ask for home time. Forget it.

This Company seems like its going down hill fast
by: Anonymous

I currently work for Trans am and I am leaser, and I thought I could work and make good money but I found out real fast that I cant make nothing and the people that work for the company don't have a clue how to do there own job. Almost like they are all hiding out for some reason.

I really think they say there is an owner in orientation and I think its all lies, we are owned by Tyson the chicken and beef. Dispatchers don't have a clue what to do you tell them you have a problem and the say they cant help you..Strange I didn't think this company was going to be like this at all...Well Shame on me for allowing them to put a wool of my eyes...

TransAm Trucking
by: Anonymous

The problem with TransAm is greed. Making a little bit of money is not enough, they must make a lot of money.

Stay away from there leasing program. You can not make any money with this program. Calling it a leasing program is a bit of a misnomer it's legal a rental contact.

Maintenance of the equipment is falling behind, due to cost saving programs. No shop personal on weekends, not even a safety lane. Trucking is 24-7, but not the people that fix the equipment.
